New 5th District Representative Kimi S. Cojuangco sought the revival of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) by re-filing the bill that was originally authored by her husband, former Pangasinan Representative Mark O. Cojuangco, in the House of Representatives in its first regular session. The new 5th District Representative seeks the immediate study of the new pro-BNPP, which is according to her is now more reflective of former House Bill (HB) No.6300 as it now contains refined essences and amendments of what were discussed during the interpellation and debate during the 14th Congress. Originally, the bill was referred to as House Bill No. 4631 but it subsequently evolved into House Bill No. 6300 after it passed approval by the Committee on Energy and referred to the Plenary for second reading, Rep. Cojuangco said in her two-page pro-BNPP bill submitted to the House of Representatives on July 13, 2010.

Lingayen, Pangasinan (6 August) -- Pangasinan language must live and be here to stay.

This in a nutshell was the message of Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. when he spoke before members of the Ulupan na Pansiansay Salitan Pangasinan (UPSP) during its 10th anniversary celebration at the Pangasinan State University Audio-Visual Room here last Wednesday.

In recognition of the governor's effort to promote the use of the Pangasinan language, the group passed a resolution making him honorary president of the group.

Espino opted to speak extemporaneously rather than read his prepared speech.

While the Capitol is the face and heart of the province, the Pangasinan language, he stressed, is its soul. For this, he had directed the entire provincial government workforce to use Pangasinan as its official language during flag-raising ceremony on Mondays.

LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN—Three-time Filipina world boxing champion Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton finally set foot on her grandparents’ home province on Wednesday on her way to Pozorrubio town to visit more relatives.

“It’s amazing. It’s my first time here and everything is just beautiful. Everyone’s heart’s warm and it feels like family,” Julaton said shortly after meeting with provincial officials here.

Julaton arrived in the country on Monday, 12 days after successfully clinching the World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight crown against Mexican Maria Elena Villalobos on June 30.

Julaton also holds the International Boxing Association female super bantamweight crown and the World Boxing Council international female super bantamweight title.

“This [visit to Pangasinan] is the most memorable thing that happened to me so far,” said Julaton, who was born in California.

Finale of the observance of this year’s Nutrition Month was the 3-day community activity conducted in Nama, Dilan and Inoman, the selected barangay sites for this year’s  Adopt-a-Barangay project of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC). The MNC is chaired by Mayor Artemio Chan and implemented by the Municipal Nutritionist Bernadita Dela Rosa through its memberline agencies such as the Sangguniang Bayan and staff, the LGU officials and employees, and the semi- and non-government organizations (NGOs) such as KALIPI, KABALIKAT Civicom and the Knights of Columbos,.  

For three days, July 29-31, the group planted tree seedlings (mahogany, gmelina and malunggay) and made home-visitations to encourage backyard vegetable gardening. They also conducted free medical and dental missions and nutrition education in the said three barangays.

Wednesday July 14, 2010, just only a few hours after Ana “The Hurricane” arrived in the Philippines for a promotional tour, she takes a long ride back to home. No, she did not take another flight back to the USA.

Also home to the World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Association (IBA) super bantamweight world champion is Barangay Villegas, Pozorrubio, Pangasinan where her Dad, Cesario M. Julaton II, was a resident before he emigrated to the USA. Generations of Julatons still live there, and Dad Cesario goes back on short visits now and then.

Sometime last year, I published an article about Richard Banegas, the husband writer of a Pozorrubian, Zonia Quesada. Richard relates that it took him approximately 7 years to finish his first book, “Hands of Fire/the Phantom Body”, a book prompted by the death of Richard’s brother. After the publication of his first book, 2 more books followed publication. And he is coming up with the third! I believe, instead of 1 book after 7 years, he will come up with 7 books in 1 year. Below is a preview of the books by Richard, which I asked him to send me for publication in Pozorrubio Online. This article becomes a part of my series, “Celebrating Pozorrubio’s Writers”.
