Celebrating Pozorrubio's Writers - 4: " The Etiology of a Community Malady"

(This is the fourth in a series of articles celebrating Pozorrubio's writers. The piece below, 'The Etiology of a Community Malady’, won the Special Award in the 1st Pozorrubio Essay/Expository Writing Contest. It was written by Dr. Francisco Raul D. Salvador, submitted under the pen name of ‘Rod Avlas’.

Dr. Francisco Raul D. Salvador, a true blooded Pozorrubian, is the youngest son of Francisco Salvador and Teofila Doras of Bobonan, a barangay north of the town. He is a medical specialist practitioner of family and community medicine, a professor of La Consolacion College, a former medical coordinator volunteer of Medecins Sans Frontiers, Switzerland section. He was a pioneering community and occupational health officer in Georgetown, British Guyana, South America.

Father's Day

Father's Day is a day honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in 55 of the world's countries and on other days elsewhere. It complements Mother's Day, the celebration honoring mothers. It is a widely known celebration.

Father’s Day History

Sonora Dodd, of Washington, first had the idea of a "father's day." She thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.

Sonora wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. Smart, who was a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state.

Pozorrubio observes 112th Independence Day

It was a long 3-day weekend and it began Saturday, June 12, 2010 with a parade through the main streets and a program at the open stage.  The 112th Philippine Independence Day celebration has for this year's theme: Kalayaan, Tagumpay ng Bayan.

Bridging the overseas barangays!


Bantugan, Nantangalan, Maambal, Castaño, Haway. Not anymore “the overseas barangays”, but “the barangays just over the bridge”. Over the Malasin-Bantugan Bridge.

At 6:30 Saturday morning of June 5, 2010, twenty-five days before Mayor Emma Chan turns over the reign of the local government to the new administration, she fulfills a promise – a bridge to link the overseas barangays to the Poblacion.
